The Comforter

2019

In partnership with the UMMA, my class Unfashionable created wearable sculptures in response to the museum’s renovated apse and new cafe. 

The Comforter focuses on UMMA’s increased effort to mark the museum as a democratic space. This includes participatory experiences in the exhibits and the museum as a shared public space. The Comforter feels at home at the museum. The Comforter sits when viewing artwork, naps in the museum, and hugs museum-goers. The Comforter shows others how the museum can be used: like one’s own living room.
