Chloe, 2017
Short documentary portrait
A tender monologue about Chloe’s first love guides this video piece through memory and nostalgia. While the narration remains linear, I animated figures to represent memory in the present day. Messy dorm room shots and the meandering of University of Michigan museums ground this piece in the 18 year old’s world we all happen to live in.
Through the art direction of this piece I created backdrops that relied on color continuity to harmonize the shots and the narrative. The visual aesthetics and mood resemble the life of a teenage biology student, hopeless romantic, and greek myth contemplator. By using a mixture of plant imagery and artifacts I symbolize reminiscence and the newness of her life ahead through her surroundings.
